DynAudio has always given unique attention to detail in regards to their anniversary speakers, and the all new Special 40 is no exception. They certainly could have put a new finish on the now classic Special 25’s, and called it a day, but the special 40 manages keep the spirit of past anniversary speakers alive while simultaneously revolutionizing almost every aspect of it’s design. This model reads as an undeniable love letter to the design philosophy behind every speaker DynAudio has produced during the last four decades.

The well established “first order” crossover returns to offer near perfect impedance optimization and frequency separation. The Special 40 is also outfitted with magnesium silicate polymer drivers mounted with their proprietary asymmetrical “AirFlow” basket. This breakthrough in design provides the stability and rigidity necessary to reduce standing waves without compromising the bellow of the driver’s excursion. Under the voice coil you will find the aero-coupled pressure release system, which helps to dissipate any built up pressure that would affect the drivers movement.

All of these technical advances are under the hood of what very well could be the best looking speaker DynAudio has ever developed. The high gloss Grey Birch and Red Birch finishes are stunningly beautiful, and must be seen in person to fully appreciate. Overall, DynAudio has given us what we’ve come to expect from their special edition speakers; an ironically unexpected evolution in sound.
